Definition
Field of social science study of “specific sets of cases that exhibit sufficient similarity to be meaningfully compared to one another” (Mahoney & Rueschemeyer, 2003:8); case study concerned with “causal analysis, an emphasis on processes over time, and the use of systematic and contextualized comparison” (10) and “within the field of historical institutionalism” (11); often using process tracing and congruence testing.
